I have a lab that has some joint pain in his legs from time to time? i have seen some things online and on t.v. but I don’t know what actually works. I don’t have much money to waste on products that don’t work. ![]()

Here is a link to the product I have been using for one of my females. It really seems to help her. They also offer beef flavored aspirin. Hope that helps! Good luck! http://www.ezinfocenter.com/9699687/Item.vstore?id=1324
the joint meds for dogs work there is also a bayer asprin for dogs that helps too. both available at walmart
talk to a vet abuot deramaxx, metacam or rimadyl (rim-a-dill)
You can try giving your dog Glucosamine and Chondroitin, which you can buy over the counter at any health food store. This will help with joint health. If your dog seems to have more infammation of the joints and needs some kind of pain reliever, you may want to talk to your vet about Duramaxx. I used this for my dog when he was a puppy, for his "puppy limp" (premature closure of the growth plate). It helped alot for him. Also, you may want to limit the amount of activity and the type of activity that your dog is doing to prevent the flare ups. Long walks, jumping, running will all aggrevate the joints.
Best of luck to you!
Talk to your vet about a daily supplement for joint health. You can buy it over-the-counter and it is not very expensive but you should really talk to your vet about the best one for your dog and the correct dosage. If the supplements don’t work and she needs prescription medication, talk to your vet about Rhymdyl (not sure about the spelling). It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory designed for dogs and is very effective (and it comes in chewable form that dogs love). I had my dog on this for the later years of his life. For the first few years it was just on occasion, as needed. As he became an old man he needed a daily dose. It doesn’t have to be given with food, but it is better on their stomachs if you do.
Glucosomine-Chondroitan is a good product, but you have to buy a reputable brand as there is no regulation on what percentage or what quality the supplement is. Cosequin is a good brand, there may be others, but that is the one I can recommend with confidence.
Fish oil is also a good supplement for dogs with joint pain as it has anti inflammatory properties and is just all around good for the dog. You have to make sure you are buying a good quality brand of fish oil too.
My personal feeling on drugs like Rimadyl is that my dogs would have to be in a lot of pain or in pain every day for me to give it to them on a regular basis. Rimadyl in particular is hard on the dog’s liver and actually requires regular screening of the liver function in dogs who are on daily doses. I have heard that some of the others that other people have mentioned are considered safer than Rimadyl but I would still try other avenues first.
rimdayl from the vet. worked wonders on my girl.
A glucosamine/chondroitin supplement will help with the arthritis. You can give the over the counter supplements sold at the drug store or buy a liquid K-9 supplement at a pet store. There are a lot of products on the market for dogs with arthritis.
One product that I have seen work is Cholo Gel. My husky has improved her mobility and stamina by a long shot on this stuff. I’ve seen a dog dying of cancer go from not wanting to walk, to running around and enjoying a few extra months of life. It is pricey, but it works.
E-mail her and ask if she has any samples.
You can tell her you heard about the product from Jennifer and Sadie the high jumping husky from Baltimore. They know who I am because they’ve sponsored Sadie at the dog shows.
You should check out http://www.springtimeinc.com, it has natural supplements for horses, dogs and people. I use the Fresh Factors and Joint Health Chewables on my 11 year old lab, you’d think he’s a pup..and he’s had a lot of troubles..
