What can explain ankle and knee pain when running and for some time afterward in a 12 year old.?
No history of injury to any of these joints. The pain is in both ankles and knees. X-rays reveal nothing wrong structurally.
Have pretty good running shoes as well as a brand new pair of Puma spikes for the 100, 200 and 400. I’m sort of doubting the shoes thing, BUT flip-flops are worn that majority of the time.

I used to have knee pain like that and I went to a physiotherapist and she told me it was because my knees are too close together as the arch of my foot rolls in so I got oathodics and do exercises and it is better now. I never had ankle pain though so I dunno if this will help you. Maybe look at the way you run to see if your ankle/knee rolls in or isn’t straight (vertical).
Good luck
Shoes that are not properly fit for the way you run…. go see a shoe specialist who can look at your stride and make sure there is nothing in the way you run that is causing that problem
Get some help from an expert that can get you in a pair of shoes that fits your running best
Yep, it’s your shoes.
Go to a running store, and they can tell you what kind of shoes are good for you, or you can just try on some and see how they feel.
Make sure they’re comfy but provide support.
