Any ideas as to what the BEST most COMPLETE dog food to switch my choc lab puppy into next month?
joint care, weight manage, immune system, not a ton of crap in it, good for eyes, EVERYTHING!! which is best?
VET SAID:
Take her off puppy food at 6 months..
However I have been told 20 weeks, and also 1 year from other good sources.. What’s going on?
My dog has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, from being overweight as well as from an injury. He is on anti- inflammatory drugs from the vet, but now his joints are making a cracking noise. I was wondering if this Vetrinex Flex HJ spray for their food really will help his cartilage repair, or at least ease the symptoms?
Hi I’ve got a 120 pound american bulldog who’s 11 years old. I think it was a bit unavoidable for him to have some joint problems, but. He used to be fat, and I put him on a diet when a vet told me it would cause joint problems. So he lost the weight, and then another vet told me he could gain a little cause he needs to eat for energy (I feed him quite little for a dog his size). So he gained a bit more, but when I noticed him having trouble I took it off again. Now this was in a span of months and not a large amount of weight, so it’s nothing to be alarmed about.
But now he’s at a good weight, eats "senior" dog food, and although he seems to be very healthy since he likes to play, he doesn’t like going on walks. part of it is laziness old-dog phobias I think cause I even have to tug him a lot or he won’t go out to poop. Be also can barely go up stairs. All I’m asking is if anyone knows of products that might relieve the pain I think he’s having. Oh, but he doesn’t seems to show pain, he just doesn’t like going on walks and he can’t go up steps.
I think my Min Pin is "showing" signs of arthritis. When I take her to her vet, what type of test(s) will he do, to determine if it is arthritis?
Thank you.
Our dog is almost 8 years old and we think he has Arthritis. We are going to a vet soon, but we wanted to know how much it is going to cost. Also, would he have to take it the rest of his life?
Any other information would be helpful!
Thank you!
My husband, a disabled vet, has really bad knees. He is in very bad pain, and spends alot of time on his feet at work. We are working with the VA to get a double knee replacement (which was recommended over 15 years ago and he’s put it off) In the mean time, though, his pain is worse every day. He has some pain medications (several different ones), but doesn’t want to just live on them all the time, so he uses them very sparingly. He comes home from work every day and just keeps ice packs on his knees to numb them until he has to get up and go again the next day. It breaks my heart to see him so miserable. Are there any effective ways other than more drugs to help him until he can get the medical intervention that he needs? Preferably something we can do at home.
By the way, he is only 39 years old, and we have 3 young children that he wants to be able to be active with.
I’m taking care of a wild parakeet who has a sort of cut on his left wing(its on the joint), and I can’t really go to the vet, so what can I do to help it?
I took my cat to the Vet today. I thought he was poisoned but his blood test results were normal. The Vet said my cat has arthritis in the hips. My cat can’t even stand on his hind legs. It seems like out of the BLUE our cat can’t function. I’ve never had that happen to me with any of my cats. He has been sleeping and laying around all day and all yesterday. The vet gave him a steriod shot that might help his muscles and help him get back on his feet. I just don’t want our cat to suffer. Right now he seems okay relaxing, chilling out but he can’t even walk by himself. His hind legs seem useless. Is this the end? Do you think we need to put our 8 yr old cat to sleep? Does anyone know? I need some advice. It’s really sad right now to think of loosing our beloved cat!
Okay this is what I don’t understand: if our vet says our cat has arthritis, why can’t he use his back hind legs? Seriously, I mean really. I am so confused right now. I guess I’m in denial right now. If our cat can’t function, how is he going to go the bathroom? I can feed him and give him liquids but at some point you would think he needs to release himself(bathroom break) . Do we need to buy diapers? If it gets to that point is it time to put our cat to sleep. I think it’s wrong to make a cat suffer. Right this moment he’s not suffering but I don’t even want him to feel any pain. I’m so torn. My children and I have been crying on and off all day. I’m just trying to get some answers so I can make the right decision. I need to make the best decision for our cat! He’s our MAN. He’s truly the best cat. As I look into his eyes it’s like he’s telling me "Time is running out". Is it time to let him go into the light? It’s just so hard and so sad! Thanks for all your advice. It’s helpful.
I have a bichon that has knee problems and I have talked to my vet a little bit about it. She told me to try joint health dog food. But, I’m not sure what is the best kind out there. I know I should just call my vet, but, I’m worried she’d just sell me what they have in the office and I know that it is really expensive.
I posted the other day about my 14 year old dog (part lab/shep) who was having trouble walking and had a soar on her leg. Took her to the vet today and she has arthritis pretty bad. He gave med’s for there for her to take daily, and an antibotic for the pressure soar on her leg. Does any one know of any home remedies I can use for her in addition to the above medication? I am so happy I did not have to put her down. I was so upset. The old girl still has life in her. Thank God.
I have an 11 year old boxer who was diagnosed with heartworms. The vet suggested we continue giving her heartguard and not do the heartworm treatment. She has a good quality of life for being an old girl, she still eats dry dog food, she doesn’t suffer from incontinence, and she sleeps on a small sofa sized dog bed. Like most boxers she does have some joint discomfort and undergoes steroid shot treatments every couple of months. Should we go to another vet to seek the heartworm treatment? Has anyone on here had to go through this before?
I always thought they couldn’t be on it they were heartworm positive either but our vet said we can. She has been on preventative since she was puppy but sometime last year we ran out and in the process of moving didn’t realize it. As soon as we did we started her back on it and just recently took her to the vet for her yearly shots and found out she was heartworm positive. It’s heartbreaking to know that just those few months without it caused to her.
Well I have a golden retriever, and shes about 6 years old now tee-hee :]. And i love her soooo much lol ^_^. Well i just want to know signs because it takes her a long time to get up, when shes laying down…And shes slightly over weight :]…Ok ok..She IS overweight haha about 100lbs. I mean is…is there signs if she has pains?…Or should we just take her to the vet?
I was talking with my vet today about ways to prevent hip problems down the road, he said that the biggest thing was to not over exercise my newfie mix puppy, make sure he did not get over weight, and that some people use gluclosimine, though it hasn’t been scientifically proven one way or the other. Has anyone used gluclosimine? Results? Do you have any information (links please!) that I could read on it. I did a google search and I came up with a bunch of ways to use it to prevent arthitis in humans. Thanks!
I have a 5 year old 90 lb dog that has arthritis in his back legs. I was wondering what over-the-counter human medicine and dosage I can give him for the pain. I am not able to take him to the vet at this time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
My guinea pig chocolate is very old, and has really bad arthritis in her feet/ankle joints. This is what the vet told me a couple months ago, when she started to drag her feet and not walk properly. She never really told me how to help her, but she was happy and walking around okay.
In the past couple of days chocolate seems very unhappy
will hardly eat, and can’t seem to walk.
When i pet her she does not purr and seems to be in pain.
Is there anything I can do to help her?
I read that Potters Tabritis tablets help, has anyone use that?
Or is my only option to put her down?
She refuses to eat or drink anything.
My 11th Month old Puppy has dip dysplasia and the Vets have ruled out a TPO as he shows signs of arthritis. I need help deciding on what course of treatment to use. Adequan (which is a monthly shot) or a supplement pill like Springtime Joint Health Chewables which contains Glucosamine HCL and Chondroitin sulfate. Also if I go with the supplement does anybody have any recomendations? Please help
He was from the pound but thanks for the heads up.
I have explored the surgical options. He has about 30 % of the ball in the hip. Not very good. He is a lab and will most likely be a 90lb skinny dog. The surgery where they just remove the hip joint and create a fake joint is recommended for dogs under 45 pounds. I have spoke with a vet and he said that he has done it on larger dogs with success but it should be a last resort. Thank You for the help.
My almost 10 yo choc lab needs something for arthritis. Vet suggested Rhymidal (sp) but I’ve read a lot on here about Deramaxx. What is the average cost of these meds per month?
Thanks!
I can feel my cat Smudge’s hip bones through her short fur, but she seems to not be stiff or anything like that. However, my cat’s hip bones are becoming more and more prominently felt whenever I pet her and Smudge is a 14 year old shorthaired cat who’s going to be 15 in June of this year. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain when she’s petted, but I’m concerned that her hip bones becoming more and more easily prominently felt may be a sign of arthritis. Is this reason enough for my concern for my cat? Smudge’s eating okay and also doesn’t seem to be losing any weight lately, but she’s 8 pounds, which is the proper weight for a cat her size, according to the vet.
I have a 9 year old Rottweiler (named Belle) who is having some trouble with arthritis. She is becoming more stiff as the nights get colder, I’m doing what I can for her. I let her sleep on my bed, and on the couch when she’s in the living room. I am also giving her Bayer Asprin (I asked my vet about the appropriate dose), but she is still limping a bit through out the day. Is there anything else I can do the ease her arhritis pain without having to put her on a perscription medication?
My brothers dog (American Bulldog), one of his joints is significantly swollen and he’s in pain here and there. It hurts for him to put weight on it. I’ve been putting ice on it and my brother hopes to get him to the vet soon. He’s been content and still wagging his tail here and there. I was just wondering if there was a GREAT home remedy that we can give him for the pain and for the swelling. Any great remedies?
He doesn’t have the money to take him to the vet right now. Money’s tight.
She is an 8 year old White Siberian Husky and is starting to slow down, which I know is nautral, but she has a bit of arthritis according to my vet. I am just looking for a remedy to help my baby. Please let me know if you know where I can buy it and the price too maybe… thanks!
On recommendation of my vet I started giving the Synovial-Flex Joint Care Soft Chews by Vitality Systems. The price of these has skyrocketed however so I am looking for a cheaper alternative. What other good joint treatment products are there around for big dogs.
My 10 yr old yellow lab was just diagnosed with arthritis. She’s absolutely fine, most of the time, runs, swims, etc. But, she has days, when she can not put any weight on her right front paw. The Vet gave me medacam, and that works very well. But is there anything else I can do for her?
She is at her normal weight, about 62 pounds, she is definitely not over-weight. She swims in the pool daily (usually several times, even when the leg acts up). I do give her glucosamine supplements (in honey). I’m interested in the magnetic therapy, do they make small mattress pads for dog beds?
She;s definitely not overweight, and I dont think she did anything to the paw, because it hurt initially, but then was absolutely fine for about a month, and then back to holding it in the air. I was really beginning to think the arthritis diagnosis was not right, until she started limping on it again…I’m not that familiar with arthritis, is that how it is, comes and goes?
My 23 year old Morgan mare some times gets a limp when trotting. The vet diagnosed her with arthritis, but its not to bad. What do you find to be the best supplement for arthritis and or do you have any suggestions?
My vet recommended Glycoflex II. Any reviews would be helpful on this and any other products that are SAFE! No side effects, etc. Any shopping tips?
