My pain gets better at times but I will wake up in the middle of the night and have really bad pain in my knees, wrists, shoulders, and ankles. Is this normal? Why does it happen? Anything I can do to make it better? Thanks!

I’ve got some arthritis in my ankles, my ankle gets swollen sometimes and the podiatrist said it’s from instability.. I’m trying to figure out what kind of shoe or sandal do I need in order to accommodate this problem?
I’m guessing nothing that "wobbles" but what else should I look for?

For the past 5-6 weeks my joints have been very achey (fingers/hands, wrists, shoulders, upper vertebrae, tailbone area, knees, & ankles). Pretty much, everything hurts and I am feeling kind of fatigued, but have also been working a lot. IThe pain is not such excrutiating pain (probably about a 5-6 on a scale of 1-10 depending upon the day), but more off a dull pain or extreme discomfort. I often feel stiff, expecially after waking up or sitting for extended periods and having trouble getting comfortable. After sitting for extended periods it is hard for me to straighten my body right away. It seems to vary in intensity, but a lot of times my hands hurt most. I am a 26 year old slightly overweight (about 15-20 lbs) female who has never had any severe medical problems. Do you think that this is something that I should go to the doctor for, or are there any otc remedies that you know of? Have you ever experienced anything of the sort. Is there a "diagnosis?"

I have been having severe joint pain for a few weeks now that seems to affect different joints on different days. it affects my elbow, hips, knees, and ankles, i have no other symptoms accept for fatigue. i have seen my family doctor and awaiting test results any ideas what this could be?

No history of injury to any of these joints. The pain is in both ankles and knees. X-rays reveal nothing wrong structurally.
Have pretty good running shoes as well as a brand new pair of Puma spikes for the 100, 200 and 400. I’m sort of doubting the shoes thing, BUT flip-flops are worn that majority of the time.

I have bad joint pain in my legs, feet, ankles etc. when i put weight on them (especially when I jog/run). This is caused by a drug im on for accutane right now, don’t tell me to get off it please ;) . Just looking for methods to ease the pain, also…is it bad to take ibprofen then workout if normally it would be painful?

I do a lot of exercise every day, and I’ve noticed lately that I’m not able to do as much as usual due to pain in my knees and ankles mostly. I know its not from lack of stretching, as its not a muscular pain but more the actual joints. By the way, I’m only 22. I really need to keep up my fitness routine, so any advice would be great.
Oh and the type of exercise I’m doing is mostly cardio, but also some weights as well

i run for a few minutes everyday (im working up slowly to 5k!) ….but today when I woke up my knees and ankles hurt really bad! I cant run at all today! what should I do? is that really bad? should I run tomorrow if it feals better?

I’ve recently been suffering from pain in my knees, wrists, and ankles. They hurt worse after cheerleading and they sometimes hurt so much i cry.

I have heel pain too, but I was diagnosed with sever’s disease. So it may not be related.

Any Ideas what’s wrong?
I have cheer practice 4 days a week so I’m in shape.
Also is there anything I can do to prevent damage and stregnthen my joints.
Should I wrap my wrists or wear a brace? I had a stress fracture in my wrist last year from tumbling.

I am in my mid-twenties and have stiff joints that are often accompanied by a dull ache. Mostly it’s in my hands, my hips, my ankles, my shoulders, my knees (pretty much all the joints, heh). I’m not sure what triggers the pain but I wake up every morning feeling sore, and my thumbs pop every time I move them (very annoying). Is there anything I can do to keep the pain and the popping to a minimum?

A few times a week a few of my joints hurt a bit. Typically my knees, occasionally elbow and ankles. It’s not an unbearable pain and I can walk fine. I’m a 19 year old male, normal size, decently active, with no family history of arthritis.

help! im 13 years old, and i have major joint pain in my ankles! what could this be? i really need help, ive missed out on 3 track meets and like 2 weeks of practice! im afraid they will kick me out! i really need relief fast!

I feel like I have rheumatoid arthritis, but I had a blood test and it was ruled out. I can predict rain with these joints now! In especial pain are the tops of my knees and my thumbs (can’t open jars). Also painful are my ankles, toes and fingers.

My OB referred me to my general practitioner. He told me to take ibuprofen, which is helping, but long term I don’t think it’s a good idea to take a constant regimen of it.

Other thoughts? I feel like someone who has lived a good, long life and I’ve got a way to go yet!

Often when I work out my ankles or hip joints ache. Like if I swim and do a lot of kicking, my ankles will start to hurt quite a bit. Same if I’m using weight machines and have to use my hip joints, they’ll make a crackle and it will hurt. Other than that, they never hurt. Not when I walk or anything like that. Its not an intense pain, but its a nuisance. Anyone had anything of the sort? (I definitely do not lack calcium and no other vitamins or minerals that I know of and I have a healthy diet and I exercise several times a week)

I have had pain in my knees and ankles since I was 15. I am 31 now and last night woke up with severe pain in my left knee, both ankles and throughout my feet as well as pain in my neck, hands and left elbow. The pain was so severe that just standing made me nauseated. Moving my feet in any way hurt as if I had broken my ankles.
Yes I have had an MRI done, blood test, you name it. The doctors say they can’t find anything wrong with me.

It’s really strange, but if I lay down for a while, awake or asleep I wake up with horrible pain in my knees, ankles, elbows, wrists and sometimes my hips. It happens when I sit for a while too. Does anyone know what this is?

Oh, the pain lasts for hours after I get up, but it starts from laying down.

everytime i drink, once i start feeling drunk, i start getting joint pain. its mainly in my wrists, elbows and ankles. is this normal? what could it mean?
and i drink like every weekend

I am 18 years old and I suffer from a lot of joint pain. I have sprained my ankles several times, my knees are basically crippled – I can’t even jump down 3 feet and every time I bend my knees there are loud pops, I have severe wrist pain, finger pain, and I even throw-out my elbow from time to time. I’m not all that abusive to my body as far as sports and such, but I feel like my joints are wasting away and I’m only 18! What’s wrong with me?

I am 6 weeks pregnant and having quite a bit of joint pain. It’s in my knees, ankles and fingers. Is this normal this early in pregnancy? I did not have any of these symptoms with my first. It’s a nagging achy kind of pain that started with just my knees and has moved to other joints. UGH…..
Thanks Kaylaxki! So it would cause pain in my knees, ankles and fingers too?

I have sever joint pain in both my wrists, both hips, both knees and occasionally my ankles. I have seen an Orthopedic Specialist, and I have seen a Rhumatologist. Its is not rheumatoid arthritis, and its not tendinitis. I have had the consistent pain for over 10 years. My twin sister is also suffering with this pain.

One suggestion was Lupus, but the blood results were negative.

Does any one have suggestions or advice?

I know that I should be on glucosamine for my joints(mainly my shoulders) and I think it may have the same cause as the pain in my ankles.

Sometimes when I walk a lot, run, or hike I get a dull pain in my left ankle, right below the end of the fibula(the bump on the outside of your ankle). Often times, it comes with a grinding feeling in the area.

Basically I know what it most likely is, and cannot afford professional treatment or even glucosamine tablets at the moment.(Anything less than -40 for a 1-month supply doesnt really work)

What I want to know is what I can do at home with a small budget to treat or prevent this?

(Was thinking ankle brace and/or arch support pads in shoes, but want other options, and opinions on these)

This summer my mom started feeling pain in her right elbow. Later her whole arm would hurt so the doctor said it was probably Tendinitis so she gave her a few exercises to do. Now her joints in her wrist, knees, ankles and toes sometimes hurt. Doctors still don’t know what it could be. Any ideas??

I was in a minor car accident when I was 13 and I noticed that whenever I would bend down to my knees, I’d hear a cracking noise (similar to if I was cracking my wrist or fingers). As time passed I noticed that even when doing things like moving my ankles to further positions (like when taking long walking strides, or running), I’d hear the same cracking noise. I’m 16 now and really getting into Thai boxing and was wondering if I should be worried or have someone look at this because wouldn’t wanna pay for minor negligence later. I didn’t really seek medical attention before because we were only bumped from the rear at a fairly low speed, but I did kinda bang my knees against the back of the front seat to reduce the impact.

My fiance has rheumatiod arthritis in his feet and ankles and in the back. He tosses and turns almost every night to where it keeps him up and also me. We are going to look for a mattress this week. Should we look more deeply into firm or soft mattress’?

I have osteoarthritis in my neck, lower back, wrists and ankles. I take prescription anti inflamitories and muscle relaxers in order to go to work. I work 10 hrs a day on my feet constantly moving, stretching and bending. While this movement is good for my arthritis, it can get really painful by the end of the day. I feel like I am up a creek without a paddle most of the time, especially after a 3 day workout. Then I just totally crash. I am tired of waking up with swollen hands, having a crick in my back and limping for a while after sitting down for 30 minutes.
