If your mom has arthritis, are the chances any higher that you will also have arthritis?
My mom has arthritis in her knees. It is to the point where she gets surgery every few years to have it scraped out. I was wondering, if your mom has arthritis, are the chances any higher that you will also have arthritis? Also what can you do to prevent getting arthritis? Thank you.

Is arthritis hereditary?
There are 200 types of arthritis. The majority of types of arthritis are not hereditary. However, if you have a condition that is hereditary – like sticklers syndrome – you will be aware of this as your doctors will be monitoring your condition closely.
Recent evidence suggests that certain types of arthritis such as osteoarthritis in the hands can be hereditary, but further studies are needed to confirm this.
Some people may have a genetic preposition to certain types of arthritis (lupus, ankylosing spondylitis etc), but this is not the same as a type of arthritis being hereditary.
arthritis is like heart disease it is passed on,specially if you have it on both sides of the family.
It depends. Some types of arthritis are brought on by age, others are passed down. If she has something like RA or OA, it is genetic. Your chances are slightly higher, but it doesn’t mean for sure that you’ll have arthritis.
Yes you hve a higher risk just ry and not fo anything that will hurt your nees, no sports and limmited running. I kno it sucks but good luck.
