DEFINITELY.
The wood is actually an ingredient. Some have mentioned hickory, apple, maple…these are the big ones. I like apple myself. Lot’s of places use mesquite. That’s BBQ wannabe. I think it burns too hot to get a real smoke on. And I’m not particularly into the flavor. Now I’m not saying you should agree with me. It’s a matter of taste. But the wood is definitely something to consider.
I don’t go to B.B.Q. joints because there aren’t any I know of in Maryland, but I would go for Hickory over anything else if I had to make that choice.
Most of the time hickory chips are used though it does differ amongst places that you go. Then some places will spice the chips do get different flavors such as mesquite. Cedar chips can be used too
Well, it does make a difference in the way the meat tastes. One would not reaslly want to use, say pine or sweetgum as it gives the meat a slightly "off" under taste, whereas oak, applewood or maple would be a better choice.
usually not, but in my family we’ll use apple wood if we’re smokin pork.
i imagen hickory chips…..
depends on what im eatin but i prefer mesquite wood
bbq is fantastic!!! if i had more time and money i would for surely go out any where, but you can tell what kind of wood that has been used for smoking, some have a sweeter or savory taste to them
Usually it is hickory in the south US especially. Sometimes oak, apple, pecan, or mesquite are used.
I don’t pay attention. All I know is that the food is good.
